Medical Physiology Certificates: Two Choices
The University of Florida offers two online graduate certificates: a Graduate Certificate in Medical Physiology and a Graduate Certificate in Medical Physiology with a specialization in Cardiovascular/Renal Physiology. The two options provide students with distinguished pathways that empower them to personalize their education to meet their goals.
These certificates are entirely online with asynchronous courses. International students are invited to apply. There are no campus visit requirements.
Medical Physiology Certificate
The Graduate Certificate in Medical Physiology is a 9-14 credit program. It is comprised of six courses covering the fundamentals of medical physiology and delving into individual body systems. Students are required to take the 1-credit Fundamentals of Medical Physiology course and then can take any combination of the remaining five courses to fulfill a 9-credit minimum. While students can take all six courses, the 9-credit minimum can be completed in just one semester.
Although each semester has specific registration deadlines and end date, these courses are self-paced and can be completed at a student’s own pace within the semester deadlines. The course content for Fundamentals of Medical Physiology should be completed first and the remaining courses can be completed in any order. The number of credits for each course is reflective of the number of lectures and assignments required to complete the course.
The courses in the Graduate Certificate in Medical Physiology are:
- Fundamentals of Medical Physiology (1 credit)
- Medical Renal Physiology (2 credits)
- Medical Endocrine Physiology (3 credits)
- Medical Gastrointestinal Physiology (2 credits)
- Medical Respiratory Physiology (3 credits)
- Medical Cardiovascular and Muscle Physiology (3 credits)
Medical Physiology Certificate with a Specialization in Cardiovascular/Renal Physiology
The Graduate Certificate in Medical Physiology with a specialization in Cardiovascular/Renal Physiology is a 12-credit program made up of four courses and can be completed in as little as two semesters. Principles of Medical Physiology must be taken by itself in the first semester. The remaining three courses are self-paced and can be taken in the same semester, however, the course content should be completed in the following order: (1st) GMS6410, (2nd) GMS6414, and (3rd) GMS6413.
This graduate certificate provides students with an understanding of human physiology at a level required for clinical medicine, and gives advanced training in cardiovascular and renal physiology and pathophysiology research. Professors in this program are experts in their field, regularly teaching medical, dental, and other graduate students.
The courses in the Graduate Certificate in Medical Physiology with a specialization in Cardiovascular/Renal Physiology are:
