This page can serve as a starting place for staff, faculty and students at Northeastern who want to increase their knowledge of LGBTQA+ identities, culture, and history as well as those who want to make their classrooms, offices, organizations, and departments more LGBTQA+ accessible.

Training and Consultation

The LGBTQA Resource Center provides consultation and training on a case-by-case basis. We know this is an ongoing and ever-evolving process, and we want to partner with you in that work. This can include an internal LGBTQA accessibility audit, reviewing forms, documents, and written copy, providing resource suggestions and more.

Actions You Can Take…

...to Make Northeastern University More Accessible to LGBTQA+ Students

  • Listen and talk about identity! We’re creating a downloadable poster (coming soon!) you can print and hang up to show your support and openness to talking about identity. Instead of waiting to be an expert, choose to extend empathy and open-mindedness immediately. You may hear a word or about an experience you are not familiar with, and that’s okay. You’ve got plenty of resources (and us!) to support you in learning more.
  • Embed unassuming language into your vocabulary, newsletters, websites, and syllabi. Don’t assume anything about someone’s family structure or the gender of the people in that structure.
  • Know where the nearest all-gender restroom options are in relation to your office, classroom or meeting place. See the full list of all-gender restrooms on campus here.
  • Use name tags or roll calls that allow people to share what name they go by and what pronouns they use. If you choose to read names aloud, read last names only and ask for what names people use.
  • Allow people to self-select a gender option when necessary, and avoid gender segregation when possible.
