Four Kent State Salem faculty members spent part of their spring break traveling north to Ontario, Canada, continuing their collaboration with Human Endeavor that began more than two years ago. The highlight of this most recent visit was being recognized by high-ranking community leaders at an international event and meeting with a top political figure.

East Liverpool Kent State University at East Liverpool’s Wall of Fame committee announces that Willard (Chuck) Adkins is the recipient of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award and Nancy Clark is being honored with the Friends of Kent State University at East Liverpool Award.

Several students in Dr. Rachael Blasiman’s research methods class participated in Kent State’s 2015 Undergraduate Symposium on Research Scholarship and Creative Activity by presenting a poster entitled “The value of online teaching methods: A comparison of professor and student perspectives.”

According to Blasiman, assistant professor of psychology at Kent State Salem, the students gained valuable hands-on experience with conducting psychological research and presenting at conferences. They reviewed literature, collected survey data, helped analyze data and created the poster.

Salem – Kent State University at Salem again received the Tree Campus USA recognition by the Arbor Day Foundation, which recognizes its efforts to promote forest management, horticulture studies and conservation. The campus will celebrate this recognition during its Earth Day observances on Thurs., April 23, beginning at 10 a.m. on campus.

The 50th Anniversary Celebration for Kent State University East Liverpool Campus will begin on Tuesday, April 14 with an art show and music on campus, featuring the talents of local artists. The celebration will continue on Friday, April 17, with additional live musical performances.

East Liverpool – Kent State University at East Liverpool invites the public to its Holocaust Remembrance Day on Thursday, April 16, at noon in the quiet study lounge of Purinton Hall.

The keynote speaker is Steve Papalas, history professor, who will discuss the Dachau Concentration Camp, which he visited during the Band of Brothers tour. 

Light refreshments will be served and a door-prize drawing will be held to give away a 10-piece DVD set of the HBO special “Band of Brothers” produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg.

East Liverpool – Kent State East Liverpool is preparing for its 13th annual Earth Day Environmental Justice Conference to be held April 25, beginning at 8 a.m. in the Slak Shak in Purinton Hall. This year’s event features four speakers and honors the late Dr. Roxanne Burns, a biology professor on the East Liverpool campus who helped organize the first Earth Day event here in 2002.

Salem – Kent State University at Salem is hosting an open house for anyone interested in its bachelor of nursing degree programs on Thursday, April 9, at the campus on St. Route 45. Registration is at 5:45 p.m. and the open house will continue until 8 p.m.

Faculty and staff members will present information on the nursing degree programs offered at the Kent State Salem Campus, including its RN to BSN program. Faculty and staff members will be on hand to explain details about financial aid, registration and testing. Students are welcome to include their families.

Kent State University’s Columbiana County campuses will host Information Nights over the next few weeks for parents and students to learn more about the programs offered locally. Those who attend Information Night and complete the required paperwork will have the $40 application fee waived and receive a free t-shirt.

Kent State University at Salem is holding its third annual FlashDash 5K obstacle race on Saturday, May 16, on the sprawling grounds of the campus on St. Route 45.

Runners of all ages will compete on a beautiful, cross-country trail that includes climbing, crawling and mud obstacles. There will also be a Flash Walk for walkers of all ages.

Registrations are now being accepted.
