Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

The College of Nursing’s BSN program develops professional nurses who are well-prepared to meet the challenges of today's health care needs.

Learning through a combination of classroom, laboratory, and supervised clinical setting instruction, Kent State nursing students graduate with a solid foundation of nursing knowledge.

As a BSN student at Kent State:
  • You’ll have access to an experienced undergraduate advisor to help you with class and program planning from beginning to graduation.
  • You’ll develop a strong foundation in your first year for the nursing courses that will be taken in subsequent years.
  • You'll have hands-on learning experiences in our skills laboratory and our state-of-the-art simulation laboratory.
  • You’ll gain real-world experience with individuals, families, and groups by working with preceptors in a variety of clinical agencies and affiliations throughout Northeast Ohio, including in primary health care, acute care, and long term care settings.
  • You'll learn about professionalism in nursing, how to research and think critically, and you will gain interpersonal skills.
Graduates of this program:
  • Gain a solid theoretical knowledge base
  • Have a strong foundation of clinical skills
  • Learn important components of professional nursing
  • Are prepared to take the NCLEX-RN examination
  • Can advance to a graduate education in advanced practice nursing (APRN), nursing education, nursing & healthcare management, and other related diciplines

Students without a RN license must complete an established core of pre-nursing courses prior to formal admission to the nursing sequence (if you do have a RN license, learn more about our RN to BSN program). See our application process for specific details on how to qualify for the Bachelor of Science Nursing Program. Individual advising and program planning by persons experienced in student services is a key component of the success of all students in the program.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program is also offered at the following regional campuses: Geauga, Salem, Stark, and Trumbull.
