Three professors selected as diversity coordinators

Students, staff, administrators and faculty now have three designated individuals to take diversity programming and other concerns of diversity or related issues. Dean Robert Jerry announced in March that Professors Katheryn Russell-Brown, Darren Hutchinson, and Danaya Wright have agreed to serve as the Levin College of Law’s first team of diversity coordinators.

Jerry wrote in an email to the law school community that these positions originated after a semester of research, interviews and consultation among members of the Diversity and Community Relations Committee aimed at addressing some of the shortcomings of the current committee model. The committee identified several projects that the college could undertake to enhance the experience of students from underrepresented groups, including racial and ethnic minorities and LGBT students. The coordinators will help design and manage the implementation of a wide range of long-term diversity programming for the UF Law community. They also will report to and consult with the dean and senior academic dean regarding their work.

After substantial research and consultation with experts and stakeholders within and outside the college, the diversity coordinators are now ready to plan initiatives that they will implement during the next academic year.

“I encourage all students, staff, administrators, and faculty to meet with the diversity coordinators regarding any aspect of diversity or community relations at the Levin College of Law,” Dean Jerry wrote. “I look forward to seeing the results of their efforts in this important initiative as we move into the next phase of our strategic planning.”
