With three co-ops, a hand in designing software for Boston Public Housing, and several campus ambassadorships under his belt, Tevin Otieno squeezed the most out of his time at Northeastern. Now he’s looking forward to taking his entrepreneurial spirit back home to Nairobi to start a company to bolster tech literacy there.
Northeastern professor Daniel Distel and his colleagues have discovered a dark slithering creature four feet long that dwells in the foul mud of a remote lagoon in the Philippines. They say studying the giant shipworm could add to our understanding of how bacteria cause infections and, in turn, how we might adapt to tolerate—and even benefit from—them.
The university recognized the outstanding accomplishments of a select group of students, faculty, staff, and alumni at the Academic Honors Convocation. “What we are celebrating today is the excellence of this place, the innovation of this place, the creativity of this place, and the boundless energy of this place,” President Aoun said.
