The University of Florida International Center is the official Program Sponsor designated by the Department of State (DOS) to administer J-1 Exchange Visitor programs at UF. The Exchange Visitor Services unit (EVS) at UFIC interprets federal regulations covering the exchange visitor program, and administers the program for international visitors to UF in any of the J-1 visa categories. EVS works closely with academic units sponsoring the exchange visitors and with support units across campus to help assure that the visitors are able to complete their programs at UF successfully, comply with immigration regulations, and fulfill the requirements of the Exchange Visitor program for educational and cultural exchange.

ISS serves as a primary resource to the University of Florida's international community in the following ways:

  • Processes I-20s for the application of the F-1 visa
  • Advises international students and their dependents, UF staff and faculty in academic units, along with non-academic units on F visa status
maintenance and compliance with Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) and U.S. immigration regulations
  • Conducts orientation sessions and informational workshops regarding immigration benefits for students, staff and faculty
  • Verifies, tracks, and submits visa status notifications through the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), as required by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security
  • Provides updated travel signatures and letters needed for verification of student status, financial expenses, student employment, social security number or driver's license applications, and other immigration related matters
  • Supports students with cultural adjustment matters, personal concerns, and many other services

Office for Global Research Engagement (OGRE)

The Office for Global Research Engagement facilitates the international engagement of faculty to increase UF’s global presence. Our team combined has over 70 years of international experience and over 40 years of working at UF.  We’ve worked in regions from West Africa to Central Asia and from Europe to Latin America. We’ve assisted hundreds of UF faculty in developing proposals for international projects, programs, and grants.

OGRE can connect you with faculty interested or working in the same country/region, and with international partners through our networking opportunities. We also provide assistance to identify and navigate international funding opportunities and offer the Global Workshop Series aimed to strengthen your proposal development skills specifically for international funding opportunities.

Study Abroad Services (SAS)

The SAS unit is responsible for all aspects of a student's study abroad experience. A team of six advisors is on staff to advise prospective students on programs that meet both their academic and personal needs, walk them through the local and overseas school's application processes, evaluate overseas transcripts, and assist with the predeparture and re-entry experiences. The Study Abroad Services staff plays an integral role in new program development, and is responsible for all risk management issues pertaining to study abroad, including emergency procedures, faculty training and
insurance enrollment. SAS manages study abroad course registration and works with the financial aid office to ensure the smooth transfer and disbursement of student aid.
